Making for a Merrier Holiday
AT THE MOST GIVING TIME OF THE YEAR, GIVING YOUNG SINGLE MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN A HAPPIER HOLIDAY.
The YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County has been an invaluable resource for the neediest women and children in our community. A variety of personal crises can bring women and children to the YWCA. They could be homeless. Or fleeing from domestic violence. Others could be struggling to keep their family intact while recovering from chemical dependence. Or a teen mother could be afraid of dropping out of school or never finding a good job.
Whatever the reason, every woman or teen mother finds a welcoming environment. A safe place to live. Educational resources for life and work. Links to valuable community resources. And a caring staff who provide encouragement and support.
But during the holidays, the struggles for these women can be even greater. And gifts for their children probably not possible. And a gift for themselves? Out of the question.Which is why, since 2004, the Rotary Club of Brighton has been gathering at the YWCA to fill bags with groceries and gifts, then distributing those bags to all residents. Making this season a whole lot merrier for them. And a lot more rewarding for Club members.
