SERVICE ABOVE SELF, ONE PROFITS MOST WHO SERVES BEST AND THE FOUR-WAY TEST.

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’5′ down=’5′]

The two phrases that have served as official mottos of Rotary get

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

to the heart of what it means to be a Rotarian from different

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

directions. But service lies at their core. Because service is what

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

Rotary is all about. Both mottos had their origins at the second

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

convention of the National Association of Rotary Clubs of America,

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

in Portland, Oregon, in 1911. In 1989, Service Above Self was

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

approved as the principal Rotary motto, because it conveys

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

best the philosophy of unselfish volunteer service.

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

Against the backdrop of this foundation, perhaps

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

the most important ethical framework the world

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]

has ever known, the Four Way Test, was born.

For the fifth year in a row, Brighton Rotarians, in partnership with the Brighton Police Department, put on a Bike Rally for bike safety. It was a new opportunity for parents and children to bring their bikes (and trikes) to the Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church parking lot to have them inspected for safety. Brake pad alignment. Tire pressure. Chain tension. Especially important for parents, checking to ensure that all children have the right sized helmet. Be sure to check out the many other ways Brighton Rotarians make an impact in the Brighton, and greater Rochester, communities every day.

Restoring Our Heritage

$100,000 Raised To Restore Historic Buckland Farmhouse.

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’15’ down=’15’]
The Buckland Farmstead is a house that best represents the growth of
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
the town of Brighton from the settlement period to the modern age.
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
It began as a very small house and grew as the size and the needs of its
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
families increased.  And of course it is important historically because
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
I of its long association with the Buckland family. n 1997, the Town of Brighton
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
purchased the house and thirty-two acres of the farm, now known as the
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
Buckland Farmstead. And Brighton Rotary teamed up with The Town
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
and The State of New York, raising $100,000 of the $400,000 cost
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
to rehabilitate the house, enhance its historic features and bring about
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
an adaptive re-use of the building. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
for the House took place September 8, 2007.

An Essential Foodlink Link

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’5′ down=’5′]

Our appetite for sorting food donations never goes away.

[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’15’ down=’15’]
Foodlink is a regional food hub and food bank serving the 10-county Rochester area
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
that, in 2014, distributed over 18 million pounds of food! And with a good
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
percentage of donated food in slightly damaged boxes and containers, it all needs
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
to be sorted, to keep the good and discard the bad. That process is done by
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
volunteers like Brighton Rotarians, who make Foodlink a twice-a-year project
[separator type=’transparent’ color=” thickness=” up=’1′ down=’1′]
that’s fun for everyone. And helps satiate an entire community.
